UP Health System Explains Online Bill Pay Issues

MARQUETTE, Michigan (AP & WLUC) – Here’s why you might be experiencing trouble paying your UP Health System bill online at this time, according to the healthcare provider.

A hack on Change Healthcare, a large U.S. healthcare technology business, has left UPHS and other healthcare providers throughout the nation in disarray. UPHS employs Change Healthcare-related technologies for a number of billing and administrative support tasks.

The UPHS management maintains that its systems are secure, despite the fact that the hack has put patient information security at risk and is postponing particular drug orders and medical staff salaries.

Last Thursday, Change Healthcare made the announcement that the attack’s culprit was a ransomware outfit. Additionally, Change Healthcare stated that it is evaluating the effects of the incident, which it initially disclosed on February 21 and which has impacted care authorization and billing portals nationwide.

On Tuesday afternoon, UP Health System gave TV6 the following statement:

“Change Healthcare, a data and technology firm that services physicians, organizations, and almost every hospital in the nation, recently had a cyber attack that UP Health System is aware of. We use Change Healthcare-related technologies for a number of billing and administrative support tasks. We have put in place processes for downtime until these systems are securely restored since Change Healthcare took down its platforms and services when this vulnerability was found.
