According to a March 19 Law360 article, former NBA shooting guard Antoine Wright received a time-served sentence for his involvement in a plot to cheat the league’s healthcare plan out of $5 million.
The study claimed that twenty-five retired NBA players and doctors were involved in the alleged conspiracy. Mr. Wright, forty, admitted to conspiracy and aggravated identity theft in 2022. During the sentencing hearing, Assistant U.S. Attorney Ryan Finkel stated that Mr. Wright provided testimony during the trial of Glen “Big Baby” Davis and Will Bynum, two former NBA players, and supported the prosecution through proffer sessions.
According to the article, Mr. Wright’s punishment included community service and a personal finance course, in addition to the time he served. He was also required to serve two years of supervised release.
According to the article, 17 out of the 25 individuals implicated in the plan have been sentenced, and the majority of them have received terms ranging from time served to 2 1/2 years in jail. The scheme’s leader, former player Terrence Williams, admitted admission to the allegations in 2022 and was given a 10-year jail term.
